That is where the rot is most immediately noticeable – in that heavy lore dump at the start of the game. You find yourself playing the missions simply because that is how you progress the game, not because the story links them well. Beyond the initial heavy dump of exposition at the beginning of the game, there really isn’t’ a whole lot of depth once the game begins. It wants to be a horrific, fantasy, noir tale that will leave an impression. Othercide wants to tell an interesting story. Want to find out? Stick with us, and you will. Does the game benefit from having rogue-lite elements, on top of traditional turn based strategy game-play. Does the game blend it’s two genres well. The X-Factor for our reviews will change from game to game, and for Othercide we’ve decided to go with Blending. Our experience with the game is based on the PC, Steam version of the game, and if you play the game on any other platform, your experience may be different from ours.Īs always our MGN Impressions are going to be broken down into four different but equal parts:

Right now it sits at a slightly above average 6.5 however I will make an update if my opinion changes by the end of the game. These are the MGN Impressions for the tactical rogue-lite Othercide, brought to you by MGN and Heartbeat Moments. Honestly so far I cannot reccomend this game over any of the pokemon games to any pokemon fans.

However I will give some credit to this game that it has more of a story than pokemon, an open world to explore, and a more interactive capture system with stats on your chances, but it's not enough to make up for the mediocre battle system. It's immensely disappointing this 2020 game that has been in development for years fails to have a battle system as fun as one that was put on a Gameboy in the 90's. Honestly I don't want to catch anymore Nexomon because what is really the point? One fire type Nexomon is hardly any different from another other than their design so I'm not really missing out on anything, and you don't even get exp for catching them.

Sure their move pools are different but this game lacks the depth and strategy that pokemon's battle system offers. The Nexomon may look different from each other, but they barely play different from each other. This bar emptys out fast, and I usually had to run back to get my team healed after a few trainer battles. Replacing each moves tp is a whole stamina bar that all moves can draw from. this makes Normal types worthless and while Gen 1 Ghost types were also broken they still had an advantage over themselves and were immune to Normal types. They have no advantages, immunities, and two weaknesses. Again, this provides even less opportunity for the Nexomon to be used for different strategies. All there is are HP, Stamina, Attack, Defense and Speed. No abilities, stripping even more things that separate each Nexomon from the other.

Nexomon only have one type, no unique combination of types this leads to a very small pool of variety between Nexomon no matter how many there are. Why? Because of the battle system, it is a half a$$ed knock off of the original. In fact I honestly feel that even the original pokemon games are better than this one. Maybe something like bug fables where it does even better than the original, and. So I got Nexomon for the switch and played it expecting a pokemon clone.
